Necessary Work
2/5/2026
While I'm attending school and working towards the next big career move, I've taken a small sabbatical from kitchen life and have secured myself a white collar job as a security guard in an office building. My building is in Downtown Sacramento, and not too far from my building lies the John E. Moss Federal Building. Located at 650 Capitol Mall, the building has been the site of a standing protest against Immigration and Customs Enforcement, as the building has recently been used as a detention facility for individuals taken off the streets by Trump's racist little gestapo. Lately the protests have gotten larger and more involved as local activist groups are stepping up their efforts and rallying people towards this cause.
It's refreshing to see so many people organized. I don't think enough is happening, we've already determined that signs and slogans aren't going to fix anything, but as I've stated before it's a hell of a lot more impactful than what I'm doing.
Sadly, the type of people that work in my building are the type of people who either don't subscribe to the correct moral standard, or are the type who value convenience over justice. Protests are supposed to be disruptive. I don't give a shit if you have to wait a little while to exit the parking garage. There are more important things at stake than you being an extra 10 minutes late home.
This is not where I belong, despite the lies that my body tells me. My back isn't sore, my feet aren't swollen, my hands no longer shake due to low blood sugar. My anxiety has never been lower, my stress is minimal. But my brain is aching for engagement, my skills are rusty, my knifes collect dust.
School work and work work has been keeping me busy, but I continue to peck away at side projects. Starting with my next post (which will be my Notable Albums of 2025 list) I'll have a comment section included courtesy of Chirpy. I chose this service due to their open-source platform, ad-free delivery, and respect for privacy. Once I see it in action, and as long as I'm satisfied with it, I'll start retroactively adding it to past posts, including the lists on the home page. Unfortunately it does mean having to add a little JavaScript to these pages, which is something I've been avoiding for a bit, but I think the net positive will outweigh the slight impact on site performance.
After that, I plan on doing a video game review of a modern release that has skyrocketed to the top of my list of favorite games of all time (take a gander and see if you can guess which one!) It will be a spoiler-free review, and will basically be my chance to just gush about everything that I think makes it great.
There's also a big announcement that I will make when the time is right that I have yet to announce anywhere else....but if you know, you know.
Until next time!
